When she finally escapes, what officers find inside the house tells a story that no one could have made up. In this video, we break down the 911 call, the body camera footage, the interrogation, and the full investigation into one of the most disturbing cases to come out of Detroit. On September 16, 2022, a woman accepted what she believed was a legitimate job opportunity connected to a church. She was driven to a house on the east side of Detroit. The moment she walked inside, everything changed. For the next three days, she was held inside a bedroom. The door had no handle. The windows were covered. A camera was pointed at the bed. Inside the room, officers later discovered restraints, weapons, and a color-coded system on the walls outlining rules and consequences. On the morning of September 19, while the suspect briefly left the house, the woman broke a window, jumped from the second floor, and ran. She went to multiple businesses and homes begging for help before someone finally assisted her. She called 911 and gave the exact address. Officers responded to the house with weapons drawn. The suspect was not inside. Hours later, he turned himself in. During questioning, he claimed everything that happened was consensual. Detectives did not believe him. In July 2025, a jury found Andrew Scott Payne guilty on seven of nine charges including first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm.
