Inside, officers found 34-year-old Geri Lynn Mays deceased in bed and in full rigor mortis — she had been dead for hours. Her 7-month-old daughter, Genesis, was in the room in severely neglected condition. The child's father, 32-year-old Troy Lamont Mahaffey, was present along with two other adults who had been buying drugs from him. An autopsy determined Mays died of acute cocaine toxicity, with hypertensive cardiovascular disease as a contributing factor. Mahaffey was arrested on September 4, 2023 and charged with Endangering Children and Failure to Report a Death.
