* (Disclaimer: The content in this video is intended for educational and informational purposes only) Rochester, N.Y. — On March 20th, 2026, around 1a.m., an Officer with the Rochester Police Department stepped out to speak with a male on Lake Avenue, just south of Driving Park, in relation to a recent shooting in the City of Rochester. Upon approaching the male, he pulled out a handgun and fired three shots towards the Officer, before running southbound. The Officer was struck at least once in the lower body. He quickly applied his own tourniquet before additional responding Officers continued emergency medical care and transported him by Police vehicle to Rochester General Hospital. Officer's Injuries have been determined to be non-life-threatening, and he is expected to be released from the hospital. Officers from multiple nearby agencies immediately swarmed the scene, establishing perimeters and searching for the suspect. Around 5 a.m., the Rochester Police Department’s Drone Unit observed the heat signature of a male in a pile of brush and debris behind a building in the 700 block of Lake Avenue. Upon the drone shining a spotlight on him, he pulled out a handgun and shot himself in the upper body. The SWAT Team safely moved in and found him to be deceased from his self-inflicted gunshot wound. Preliminarily, the male appears to match the description of the male who shot the Officer. Although the Police is waiting on scientific confirmation of his identity from the Monroe County Medical Examiner, the tentative identification is that of the male suspected in that recent shooting.
