* (Disclaimer: The content in this video is intended for educational and informational purposes only) Milwaukee, Wisconsin — On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at approximately 9:07 p.m., Milwaukee Police Officers were dispatched after numerous 911 callers reported an armed man at a second-floor apartment near North 64th Street and West Sheridan Avenue. Investigators say the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Deontae Ransom, had gone to confront his ex-girlfriend after accusing her of being with another man. According to court records, he allegedly pounded on her apartment door, threatened her with a firearm, and demanded to be let inside while another man accompanied him. Fearing for their safety, residents alerted police, prompting a rapid response to what officers believed was an active shooter situation. As officers searched the building, they heard loud noises they believed were gunfire and moved into the stairwell to locate the suspect. Body-camera footage shows the officers climbing the stairs before suddenly encountering Ransom, who allegedly had a modified handgun concealed inside his clothing with one hand remaining in his pocket. Believing he posed an immediate threat, two officers opened fire, striking him in the arm. Ransom retreated to the upper level of the stairwell, where surveillance video shows him removing his jacket and placing his weapon on the floor before officers cautiously advanced. After roughly a minute and a half, he came back downstairs with his hands raised and surrendered without further violence. Officers took him into custody and transported him to a hospital for treatment.
